If a hopeless patient with cancer is discharged from the hospital home, this can prolong his life. This conclusion was made by scientists after analyzing statistical data. However, they emphasize that it is only a few days.
Japanese scientists from the University of Tsukuba conducted an analysis of the statistical data and estimated how long the life of a hopelessly sick person with cancer changes if it is discharged home.
Experts analyzed more than 2 thousand cases of oncological diseases and calculated that those patients whose life-span, according to doctors who had about 2 weeks, could live 13 days at home and only 9 days in a hospital. Severely ill patients who could live from 2 to 8 weeks lived in their native walls for an average of 36 days, and the average life span was shortened to 29 days while in the clinic.
However, despite the eloquent facts, doctors rarely prescribe the dying home, and 50% of people finish their lives in the hospital.
